Library Adds Scopus: The Largest Database of Peer-reviewed Literature

Elsevier logo Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, including journal articles, books, patents and conference proceedings. This database provides comprehensive coverage of research output in the areas of science, technology, medicine, social science and arts and humanities. Scopus is also incredibly current – it’s the only leading database that is updated daily, rather than just weekly.

In addition, Scopus is a citation index, linking the references that articles and book chapters have cited with the source works, allowing users to search, discover and analyze patterns in how research is conducted. In particular, Scopus features bibliometrics tools to track citations over time for a set of authors or documents. Users can also view h-index (publication impact) for specific authors, assess trends in search results, analyze an author’s publishing output, and gain insight into a journal’s performance.

Bring Library Content Directly Into Your Canvas Courses

On August 7, an upgrade to the Le Moyne Library website brought a new opportunity for instruction. A technology standard known as LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) connects Canvas to third-party web applications, such as Turnitin, YouTube, and now the Library website, so that faculty can identify and embed that content directly into their Canvas learning modules. Give it a try. An overview and some examples can be found as part of the Faculty Support section of the Library website at http://resources.library.lemoyne.edu/faculty-support/canvas.

New Library Website

The Falcone Library unveiled a new website design on August 7. One of the new features is that the website is “responsive” — that is, it adapts to what ever device you use to browse the web and accommodates screen sizes ranging from smartphones to large desktop displays. There is also an updated A-Z Databases interface that can be searched, browsed alphabetically, by subject, and by database type.

Let us know what you think. For more information, contact Tom Keays <keaysht@lemoyne.edu>

Library Website Update on August 7

Service OutageThe Library website will be upgraded and a new design unveiled on Monday, August 7. The site may not be available, beginning around 12 pm and continuing for up to 2 hours, while server infrastructure changes are put into place. Other Library services, including the Library catalog, Connect NY, Journal Finder, FAQ, and room booking, will be unaffected. The A-Z Database list will be unavailable, so we prepared a quick and dirty listing of library databases to use during the outage.

Library Renovation Closures: Week of June 12-20

There will be asbestos abatement occurring in the back part of the Library on both floors that will affect access to those areas. The main impact will be the temporary loss of access to the computer cluster on the first floor from Monday, June 12 through Friday, June 16 and access to bookstacks PR 4964 – QA 89 on the second floor from Tuesday, June 13 through Thursday, June 20. Since access to these areas will only be barred for a week, we are not able to relocate these items.

We plan to change the status of material located in bookstacks PR 4964 – QA 89 to “unavailable” during this time period so any patrons in need of those books can submit Connect NY requests for them instead. Once we have access to that collection again we will change the status back to “available.” As for the computer cluster, you will still be able to use the workstations at the front of the library across from the Library Services Desk.
