Dances to Myths Performance on November 11

The Le Moyne College Art Minor faculty and students, in conjunction with the Wilson Art Gallery, will be offering a public performance, “Dances to Myths,” created by dance adjunct faculty members Ruth Arena, Larry Crabtree and Linda Facciponte, following the opening reception for Kenny Harris’ art installation, “Ancestral Narrative“. The reception for the art show is on November 11 from 4 – 6 pm and the dance performance is at 6 pm in the Library Atrium. Both events are free and open to the public, however seating is limited for the dance performance. The program duration is approximately 30 minutes and there will be a brief Q&A session directly afterwards with the dancers and choreographers. For more information, view the program notes.

Kenny Harris: Ancestral Narrative

“Ancestral Narrative,” an installation of sculptural drawings by artist Kenny Harris, illustrates the universal nature of human emotion.

On Friday, November 11, from 4 to 6 p.m., there will be an opening reception for the exhibit, which will be on display at the Wilson Art Gallery from November 11 – December 9 during regular library hours.

A special dance performance following the reception will begin at 6 p.m. in the library atrium. It is free and open to the public, but space is limited. The reception, performance and exhibit are free and open to the public. For more information, call (315) 445-4153.

Kenny Harris: Ancestral Narrative

Kenny Harris earned his MFA in Studio Art From Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, PA. He has had group shows at the Rochester Contemporary Arts Center in Rochester, NY, the Sebastopol Center for the Arts in Sebastopol, CA, Artists’ Milepost in Portland, OR, and most recently at the Garrison Art Center in Garrison, NY. His premier solo exhibition, “A Technicolorful Life,” created a graphic re-imagination of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum. Visit the artist’s website at http://www.kennyharris.net/.

Express Yourself on our Writing Wall!

We ask the question: “Should information be free, or for a fee?” on our Writing Wall in the Library, and you get to tell us what you think! It’s a complex question, and many perspectives are welcome. Paper will be available on the Writing Wall (across from the bathrooms) throughout October so that you can voice your thoughts.

The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz

The Internet's Own BoyCome enjoy popcorn and a movie in the Bernat Special Activities Room on Wednesday October 19 at 7 pm. “The Internet’s Own Boy” depicts the life of American computer programmer, writer, political organizer and Internet activist Aaron Swartz. It features interviews with his family and friends as well as the internet luminaries who worked with him. The film tells his story up to his eventual suicide after a legal battle, and explores the questions of access to information and civil liberties that drove his work.
